Molly Tuttle is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who has helped push bluegrass into new territory. She is a two-time Grammy winner for Best Bluegrass Album and was the first woman named IBMA Guitar Player of the Year.

Molly was getting ready to leave on tour the afternoon we made this plate. In fact, her tour bus arrived at the studio while we were still working, so there was not much time to overthink anything.

I wanted to make a portrait that felt different from the images I had seen of her before. She had her signature guitar with her, and instead of pulling back and making the guitar the obvious focus, I moved in close and let the two of them almost fill the frame together.

It became a true One Take in every sense. We made the plate, she saw it, loved it, and not long afterward she was on the bus and headed out.
