Ketch Secor and Molly Tuttle are two of Nashville's most distinctive musicians and string players. When we made this plate, they had also just gotten married the weekend before.

This sitting came together through Tennessee Crossroads. Nashville PBS was getting ready to re-air the segment they had filmed with me a few years earlier, when I made a tintype of longtime host Joe Elmore. With One Take now underway, I mentioned that I would love to include Ketch in the series.

That conversation grew into something bigger. Tennessee Crossroads wanted to film a short piece from the sitting for its Jaunt series, and Ketch suggested that I come to the studio and photograph Molly as well.

So I packed up the wet plate setup and did something I rarely do…took One Take out of my studio.

Ketch and Molly had been married only a few days when they sat together for this plate. With Molly preparing to leave on tour that same afternoon, everything about the session had a little momentum behind it. Their shared plate became the center of an afternoon that also produced individual portraits of each of them.
