Pricing & Scheduling
All tintypes are made in my home studio in Franklin, TN, in a session that lasts about an hour and a half. You are part of the process from beginning to end: I coat the plate, sensitize it in silver nitrate, load it into the camera, and make your portrait. Then we go into the darkroom together and you watch the image being developed and appear right before you.
There are light hors d'oeuvres, water, and sparkling wine, and nothing about the session is rushed. We’ll talk through poses, try a few approaches, and make the kind of portrait that feels right for you.
You leave with the plate itself. Not a print of it. The original tintype that held the light from that moment.

Scheduling
Sessions open about a month at a time, usually one or two Saturdays per month, and recent dates have filled quickly. New dates are announced to my email list first. Sign up to hear the moment sessions open.

If the calendar shows no open times, the current dates are full. That happens fast lately. Join the email list and you’ll hear when the next dates are released before they are posted publicly.

Pricing
The session price includes the full studio experience, your first plate, and a high-resolution digital scan. The only decision to make ahead of time is the size of your first plate.
Tin/Metal Plates:
11x14: $475
A premium large-format tintype for those wanting a more substantial fine-art portrait. The 11×14 plate has a striking presence and creates a finished piece that feels especially timeless and gallery-worthy. Because of its size, each plate requires additional chemistry, careful handling, and added care throughout the process.
8x10: $225
Ideal for individual portraits, couples, and families. This size provides more room, greater detail, and the most versatile portrait experience.
5x7: $150
Individual portraits only. A beautiful entry-size tintype with an intimate, personal feel.
For a clear glass ambrotype instead of metal, add $50 to any plate size. Glass plates need a few extra days for varnish, backing, and careful packing, so they are available for pickup or delivery a few days after your session.
Additional Plates:
After your first plate, additional plates of the same size or smaller are $100 for 5x7, $135 for 8x10, and $240 for 11×14.
Most sessions have time for three or four plates, and you are welcome to use the time. Different poses, different groupings, one for you and one for family. If you decide during the session that you want to go bigger than your first plate, that is fine too: The largest plate of the session is priced as the first plate, and everything else receives the additional plate rate.
Retakes are always welcome and do not count against you. If a plate does not come out the way we want, we make another one.
A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to secure your session time and is applied to your portrait session. If your plans change and you stay in communication with me, I am happy to apply the deposit toward a future session.
Tin/metal plates can be taken home the day of the session. Clear glass ambrotypes will be available for pickup or delivery a few days later.
