Evan Hutchings is one of Nashville’s most accomplished session drummers, with credits that include Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Reba McEntire and Tim McGraw. He was named ACM Drummer of the Year in 2022.

Brent Anderson and his wife, Desiree, brought Evan to the session, and I knew pretty quickly he was exactly the kind of person I wanted One Take to include.

I’m a former drummer myself, although I usually tell people I’m a recovering drummer, so Evan and I had plenty to talk about. One thing I had always thought was particularly impressive was that he performed at Zildjian’s 400th Anniversary Concert, helping honor legendary Nashville session drummer Eddie Bayers.

We spent a good part of the session trading stories about music, drummers and people who should be part of One Take. That conversation led to even more names being added to the list for future sittings.

There was also some good bourbon involved.
